The Classic FM Foundation
The Classic FM Foundation aims to raise over £100,000 this year to provide music therapy for thousands of vulnerable children across the UK. By taking part in 123sing! you will be helping to bring the magic of therapeutic music to some of the UK's most disadvantaged children.
orking with partner charity, Nordoff Robbins, The Classic FM Foundation is hoping to provide over 4,000 vital music therapy sessions for children living with illness, disability, trauma or isolation; transforming their lives through the power of music. With your help, we can reach that goal.
Mia's Story
Mia was three years old when she began music therapy with The Foundation's charity partner, Nordoff Robbins. Her premature birth had led to many health and developmental problems, and long periods of hospitalisation. With poor muscle tone and a defective heart she still could not walk independently. She was fed through a tube in her nose until she was three, and her speech by this point consisted of only about twelve words. Mia was afraid of other children coming close and was frightened by noise. In short, her future looked grim.
But in individual and then group music therapy over two years, Mia blossomed. “Music party”, as she came to call music therapy, was a space where she could relate and connect to others through the sheer joyfulness of making music. She became animated and confident, playing her part with creativity and self-assurance. Music therapy helped Mia discover a new world of possibility. Soon she was walking independently, speaking in sentences, enjoying her interactions with the other children and expressing affection to her family for the first time.
Mia’s mum says: “Astonishing changes have taken place. We have seen Mia’s world open up, as have my husband’s and mine. Music therapy has the power to change lives.”

The Classic FM Foundation is an appeal of Global Charities, registered

Making Music
123sing! is a collaboration between Classic FM and Making Music, the UK’s number one organisation for voluntary music. Making Music feels passionately that the more music people make together, the healthier and
happier we all are. That goes for children, young people, adults and older
people alike.
Making Music thrives on encouraging all kinds of
voluntary music groups and individuals to play a part in the UK's vibrant
multi-cultural music scene.
Making Music works hand in hand with communities all
over the UK. From remote villages in the Outer Hebrides, across the tarns of
Cumbria and river valleys of Northumberland, from farmlands in Wales,
coastlines in Suffolk and Devon, and from the heart of London and many other city centres, their
members come to them for the expert help they need to set up, run and grow music
in their communities.
Being there for their members - 3,000 and growing -
in person, on the phone or on line is vital. They make sure their services are kept
up to date and are readily available for newcomers and more experienced
users.
